Dr. Doris Barwich is medical director for the BC Centre for Palliative Care, leading its research portfolio and medical partnerships. As the Centre’s founder, Doris has established the strategic focus and mobilized provincial networks and partnerships to accelerate best practices and promote innovation in palliative care. She is a palliative care clinician, educator and leader.
Prior to joining the Centre in 2014, Doris co-led Fraser Health’s End-of-Life Care program, with several nationally and internationally recognized leading practices in Advance Care Planning, population health, and program delivery. She served on numerous provincial and national committees and boards and has been part of developing innovative approaches to improve care for patients and families living with serious illness. Her research includes developing tools and resources for Advance Care Planning.
Doris is passionate about supporting transformative changes within the health care system and in society as a whole, as we all embrace the challenges and opportunities of living and dying well in the 21st century.
