New Westminster – In response to the interruption of services and other challenges experienced by community programs because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the BC Centre for Palliative Care (BCCPC) has released its fourth cycle of grant funding through their Seed Grant Program.
The aim of the Seed Grant Program is to assist BC community-based non-profit organizations to initiate, adapt, or continue to deliver critical community-based supports for isolated or frail older adults and those living with or dying from serious illnesses, and for their families, who have been disproportionally impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic.
The BC Centre for Palliative Care has awarded $60,000 to 21 non-profit organizations including 15 hospice societies and 6 community organizations.
“COVID-19 has put unique pressures on non-profit organizations that provide vital support in their communities. That’s why we have focused this round of our Seed Grants Program to address this need, said Dr. Eman Hassan, Executive Director. “BCCPC serves all of BC, so it’s especially gratifying that once again, fully half of the grants will go to organizations serving remote, rural and First Nations communities.”
This is the fourth funding cycle of the Centre’s Seed grants. In the three previous funding cycles, 49 non-profit organizations received funding and support for 68 projects.
To qualify for seed grant funds, community organization projects were asked to address at least one of BCCPC’s priorities:
• Provide practical, psycho-social and/or spiritual support services to the target population, including supports for grief and bereavement;
• Enhance public awareness of and engagement in advance care planning
