Work on the Centre’s research project on bereavement supports continues, and the next developments in the project are to go “wider” and “deeper” into the research.
A wider look: exploring grief with the vulnerably housed
In the course of the project research, it became clear that there was a gap in our data regarding grief supports – both formal and informal – for those who are vulnerably housed, or who have lived experiences of homelessness. Since there is also very limited academic literature on this topic, the research team will begin with exploring frontline staff perspectives and experiences with supporting this population during their grief, and then plan to interview those with lived experience.
Diving deeper: connecting with symposia and roundtables
This fall, the Centre will host three virtual symposia with service providers and bereaved people to review the project’s findings and identify gaps in bereavement supports. After the symposia, the project will host a virtual roundtable with experts and leaders in bereavement services to take the next steps: creating an evidence-based action plan to enhance access to bereavement supports in British Columbia.
