Dementia project update: implementation phase

The Advance Care Planning for People Living with Dementia project has had some exciting progress through the end of 2020, and more to look forward to in 2021.

The implementation phase is underway, and 10 community sites from across the province have confirmed their participation in the implementation and evaluation of the dementia-tailored Advance Care Planning sessions from March to June. The materials are currently being refined based on what we learned in the pilot phase. The implementation sites represent and serve communities from across the province, including the Lower Mainland, Interior BC, Northern BC, Vancouver Island, and the Sunshine Coast.

Up to four facilitators from each organization will be trained to deliver two sessions of each program to people living with early stages of dementia and their family and friends: a guided group conversations event, and a two-part Advance Care Planning information session.

The project is funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada and is implemented in partnership with key provincial organizations including Alzheimer’s Society of BC, Family Caregivers of BC, and Healthy Aging at United Way.

Pilot sites promotion

Two of the project’s pilot sites will be hosting their conversation events and information sessions in the new year. Please feel free to promote these sessions among your networks:

North Okanagan Hospice Society in Vernon, BC
