The Pandemic Made Me Do it! Moving from “death by PowerPoint” to engaging e-learning

Throughout the pandemic, educators have had to scramble to modify in-person sessions to online. Most of the time, the best we could do was PowerPoint over Zoom. We know that some learners have the camera off and could be snoozing, not even in the room, or even walking the dog.

On the upside, with more online sessions, those living in rural and remote areas or those who don’t have time to leave their desk have had more, and more accessible, education opportunities.

How to keep the good and lose the bad?

BCCPC has piloted an interactive online module with a “choose your own adventure” style. Engaging and interactive, the module encourages learners to be fully present … no snoozing or dog walking! The module’s content and style are based on evidence gathered through a literature review, surveys and focus groups with students and practicing clinicians.

In this one-hour online session, you’ll hear about the process of creating an interactive, fun learning experience. This session will be in an ECHO format, using “all teach, all learn” principles, so bring educational material you would like to adapt to online. The group will have an opportunity to give and receive feedback from other educators.

Health educators from all sectors, including academic institutions (not limited to a palliative care focus) are invited to attend. You’ll be hosted by Beth Cougler-Blom (Beth Couglar Blom Facilitation), Kathleen Yue (BCCPC) and Katie Green (UBC medical student) at this co-sponsored ECHO session.

Everyone who registers will have access to the session recording, and those who complete the evaluation will be entered into a draw to receive a free copy of Beth’s book, Design to Engage: How to Create and Facilitate a Great Learning Experience for Any Group.
